The annual Autumn Event, this year a quiz, took place on Friday 11th October from 7 pm for 7:30 pm at Chester Road Sports and Social Club, hosted by President Ann Mullard.
Once again, we opted for a quiz night, and were rewarded by a great turnout with fourteen teams taking part.
Despite some fiendishly tricky questions, there was strong competition and much jostling for position. Fierce pencil-chewing gave way to more sustaining fare with the arrival of the fish and chip van. There was a pause to enjoy the delicious fish supper and raffle, both excellently organised by Ken Garbett. Several participants were seen to head to the bar for a nerve-steadying sherbet or two and, thus refreshed, the teams resumed battle for the final dastardly rounds of brain-racking.
Our glamorous scorer, Gail Kerrigan, was kept very busy at the state-of-the-art score board, and is to be congratulated on her faultless mental arithmetic under pressure.
The winning team were Kevin and Sue Smith, Mark and Clare Seiboth, and Eddie and Jane Wisniewski. The three gentlemen players are all Old Carolians (class of '79) with a strong Old Elizabethan streak running through each. Hard on their heels were the KOD-pieces, captained by President-elect Charles Combes, and The Optimists, noble in third place.
Clearly, all that education has not been wasted!
