The annual Remembrance Service took place on Monday 11th November from 10:30 am for 11 am in the former Woodfield Hall, Bewdley Road, hosted by President Charlie Combes.

2013 Remembrance Service

The decision was taken that, this year, a service should be held in the hall at Woodfield in memory of the Old Carolians that lost their lives in the two World Wars.  Ninety-nine years from the start of the Great War was enough to bring a quite decent turnout in a calm and respectful mood at 11 am.  The service was conducted by Canon Paul Brothwell, and the names of those lost in battle were read out by Colin Lloyd and Norman Broadfield.  President Charlie Combes laid a wreath beneath the stained-glass memorial window, and the general feeling was that this 'new event' in the calendar would be repeated.  The Woodfield Hall, with its tradition and sense of history, lent itself very easily to what is essentially a sombre and reflective occasion.

Our war correspondent, 'Captain' Peter Vaughan, reported: 'It was the first time I had returned to Woodfield Hall since 1961 and my memories were still alert enough to notice that very little had changed.  A splendid meal was also enjoyed by a group of us in the China Lodge Restaurant opposite the school in the transformed public house, which, in the glory days, used to be 'The Prince Albert'.
