The annual Autumn Event, this year a race night, took place on Friday 2nd October from 7 pm for 7:30 pm at Chester Road Sports and Social Club, hosted by President Colin Lloyd.

2009 Autumn Event (races)

A small but enthusiastic gathering was treated to some exciting racing courtesy of Videoraces, a professional outfit with state-of-the-art digital format horse races and computerised betting 'Tote'.

The President's wife, Stephanie Lloyd, backed the first two winners of the eight-race programme, much to the amusement of her husband, but the Lloyds' good fortune was short-lived.  Ex-President Peter Guy, renowned punter and part race-horse owner (we don't know which part), did not fare much better, but, by the end of the evening, most people had experienced a win or at least a reward for 'owning' a winning horse.

A highlight of the evening was the 'Policeman's Ball Handicap', sponsored by Treasurer and ex-President Peter Picken.

Half-time refreshments were in the form of some delicious fish and chips, provided by the admirable 'Captain Cod's'.  Such was their appeal that Brian 'Muscles' Clarke had two helpings, which probably doubled his body mass index immediately.

All in all, a pleasant evening's entertainment in good company with something for everybody.
