The annual Autumn Event, this year a race night, took place on Saturday 4th September from 7 pm for 7:30 pm at Chester Road Sports and Social Club, hosted by President John Atkinson.

2004 Autumn Event (races)

President John Atkinson's final social event of his year in office continued his winning run with a race evening, which was thoroughly enjoyed by 40-odd members and guests.  Eight video-races were planned and were named and sponsored by those present.  Some of the more intriguing names were 'Ada's Amble', named after and sponsored by the President's mother-in-law, and 'Sciolous Stakes' (look it up yourself!) sponsored by previous President Peter Handley.  Among others, immediate past President Peter Guy, his wife and his daughter each sponsored a race as did Heather Humphries, wife of Secretary Martin.

It was particularly good to see some of our younger members present, including Lisa Broomfield-Harrison, Jayne Aston (one of our newest members) and Joanne Knight, the first ex-pupil of the 'new' School to become a Committee member.  All those present were spoiled for choice with a buffet supper of Scotch eggs, pork pies, sausage rolls, bhajis, a variety of pizzas, chicken drumsticks and a bewildering array of savoury rolls containing ham, salmon, egg, tuna, cheese etc; everything was prepared and provided by Committee members and their spouses.

John Booth presented a small gift to all of the ladies that had contributed to the buffet, and, at the end of the evening, an unexpected bit of entertainment was provided by some exuberant Kidderminster Cricketers, who celebrated their win of an important match earlier in the day by 'streaking' across the pitch for those that were lucky (or unlucky!) enough to have seen it!

Don't ever say that OCA social events are predictable...
