The annual Autumn Event, this year a cheese & wine night, took place on Saturday 28th September from 7 pm for 7:30 pm at Chester Road Sports and Social Club, hosted by President Keith Weston.
The Autumn Event has sadly had a disappointing turnout for a number of years, and the 2002 one was no exception. This is a shame, because those that met at Chester Road Sporting Club had a good time with a substantial buffet supper, consisting of, among other things, vast amounts of five different cheeses of excellent quality – plus all the wine they could drink – included in the ticket price! The President's wife, Liz Weston, with Pat Garbett, put on the spread.
This event was notable for Magazine Editor Norman Broadfield's sporting a hardly-visible, but thankfully short-lived, moustache. An anarchic admirer of the artistry of Groucho Marx went on not to resist the temptation of enhancing it!
For those of us that like a pint or two as well as (or – perish the thought – instead of) a sufficiency of French red with our food, the venue's guest real ale was also a treat, but you had to put your hand in your pocket for that! There was also a good raffle with the prizes shared around quite well. A highly enjoyable end to Keith Weston's highly successful Presidential year!
